The Friends of Fort Davis was established in 1983 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization by then Park Superintendent Doug McChristian. Its purpose is to support those activities approved by the National Park Service for which federal funds are not available.
The first project funded by the Friends was the restoration of the historic Enlisted Men’s Barracks, home of the Ninth and Tenth U.S. Cavalry, known as "Buffalo Soldiers" for which the Friends provided $101,000 towards the restoration.
The next project was to furnish the Squad Room and the Orderly Room of the Enlisted Men’s Barracks at a cost of $32,000.
In the ensuing years many more park improvements were funded and supported by the Friends of Fort Davis NHS. To learn more about these projects see our History page.
An important part of our mission is to raise money that can be passed on at the request of the park superintendent to make desired improvements to Fort Davis National Historic Site. We do this through membership dues, donations and Grants from philanthropic foundations.
You can be a part of this important and interesting endeavor to restore, preserve and improve Fort Davis so that the presentation of our frontier heritage is more interesting, educational and enjoyable for all.
We invite you to become a member of or a donor to the Friends of Fort Davis National Historic Site to help preserve our frontier heritage. For more information and details go to our Join page.
